The winner of a duel with the Angels' ace southpaw, rookie righthander Bob Stanley of the Red Sox shut out the Angels, 3-0, and handed Frank Tanana his first loss of the season. Tanana retired the first 11 batters, striking out five, before Jim Rice walked in the fourth inning and scored on a triple by George Scott. Dwight Evans and Bobby Darwin doubled for another run in the fifth. Steve Dillard accounted for the final Red Sox tally with a home run in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
