A sacrifice fly by Joe Zdeb in the 10th inning scored Frank White and gave the Royals a 6-5 victory over the Rangers in a game marked by a brawl that resulted in the banishment of five Rangers and one Royals' player. The trouble broke out after Darrell Porter, Royals' catcher, bumped Bump Wills when the Rangers' rookie was caught off third on a suicide squeeze attempt that failed. Several fights erupted as both benches cleared. Wills, Claudell Washington, Willie Horton, coach Pat Corrales and manager Frank Luchessi of the Rangers were thrown out of the game, along with Porter as the only Royal to be ejected.

The Royals scored three unearned runs in the fifth inning and made it 5-2 with homers by Amos Otis and Al Cowens in the sixth before the Rangers rallied to tie the score in the ninth with the aid of a homer by Mike Hargrove. In the 10th, White walked, took third on a single by Hal McRae and scored the winning run on Zdeb's fly. [The Sporting News]
