The Yankees gained their 13th victory in the last 15 games, routing the Athletics, 11-2, and took over sole possession of first place in the East Division ahead of the Brewers. Roy White hit his second three-run homer in two days, plus a single for a fourth RBI.

Mickey Rivers also connected for the circuit with two men on base and Graig Nettles added a solo swat to enable Don Gullett to breeze to victory. Thurman Munson drove in a run with a single and extended his batting streak to 15 games. [The Sporting News]
