Atoning for his error, Larry Bowa batted in the tie-breaking run in the 13th inning and Mike Schmidt followed with a homer to sew up the victory for the Phillies, who defeated the Dodgers, 7-4. The Dodgers were in the game only because Bowa's error led to four unearned runs in the first.

The Phillies, after picking up two tallies, tied the game in the eighth when Garry Maddox singled with the bases loaded. In the 13th, Jay Johnstone walked, moved to second as Maddox was retired and scored on Bowa's single. Schmidt's homer then put the game out of the Dodgers' reach. [The Sporting News]
