Dave Winfield batted in three runs with a homer and single in the first game and drove in what proved to be the winning run with a single in the second game as the Padres defeated the Mets in a twi-night doubleheader, 6-3 and 4-3. Winfield whacked his homer off Tom Seaver with a man on base in the first inning of the opener. Seaver surrendered two more runs in the second and then left the mound after three innings with an apparent upset stomach.

In the nightcap, Bill Almon batted in two runs for the Padres with a single in the third inning and their other pair followed in the fifth on a single by Gene Richards, double by George Hendrick and single by Winfield. [The Sporting News]
