The Braves' 17-game losing streak came to an end with a 6-1 victory over the Pirates, who were stopped on their 11-game winning string. Max Leon, who started on the mound for the Braves, scattered three hits and drove in three runs with a sacrifice fly and single before being relieved in the eighth inning. Rick Camp yielded a run-scoring single by Willie Stargell while finishing the game.

 Owner Ted Turner, who served as acting manager of the Braves in the previous night's game, was ordered out of uniform by N. L. President Chub Feeney because his contract as coach had not yet been approved. Coach Vern Benson handled the club in the absence of manager Dave Bristol, who had been relieved of his duties for 10 games by Turner. [The Sporting News]
