Dan Meyer and Bill Stein hit homers on consecutive pitches thrown by Catfish Hunter in the first inning to start the Mariners off to an 8-6 victory over the Yankees, who committed five errors. Six of the Mariners' runs were unearned. Carlos Lopez was safe on an error by Graig Nettles ahead of the homers. The Mariners added a run in the second and kayoed Hunter in the third while scoring four more times with the aid of two errors by Chris Chambliss and one by Willie Randolph. [The Sporting News]
