The Cubs scored four runs in the third inning, three of them unearned on an error by Steve Rogers, to beat the Expos, 6-3. Rogers started digging his own grave by hitting George Mitterwald with a pitch to open the stanza. After a sacrifice by Rick Reuschel and a wild pitch, Mitterwald scored on a single by Ivan DeJesus.
