Gary Nolan, who was sidelined for first the six weeks of the season, gained his second victory since returning to action when the Reds defeated the Giants, 6-2. The Reds scored three runs in the first inning, one of them coming on Dan Driessen's theft of home on a double steal with George Foster. Nolan gave up homers by Bill Madlock and Terry Whitfield in the third but lasted on the mound through seven innings before Champ Summers batted for him and hit for the circuit.
