Jerry Garvin's streak of five straight victories was stopped by the Twins, who kayoed the rookie in the fifth inning and defeated the Blue Jays, 5-3. The Twins already were leading, 3-1, when they loaded the bases in the fifth on a single by Lyman Bostock, pass to Dan Ford and safe bunt by Rod Carew, chasing Garvin. Larry Hisle greeted reliever Pete Vuckovich with a sacrifice fly. After a single by Rich Chiles filled the sacks again, Butch Wynegar also hit a sacrifice fly to assure the Twins' victory.
