Skip Jutze had the distinction of hitting the Mariners' first grand slam as the expansion club defeated the Orioles, 10-2. The Mariners began flexing their muscles in the first inning when Carlos Lopez and Bill Stein hit homers, Stein's blow coming with a man on base.

Doug DeCinces accounted for the Orioles' pair with a round-tripper in the second, but the Mariners put the game away with a five-run blast in the third. After Rupper tJones drove in one run, Jutze hit his grand slam off Dyar Miller, who had taken the mound in relief of Rudy May. [The Sporting News]
