Dave Rozema, who had won three straight games, was handed his first major league defeat when the Rangers beat the Tigers, 3-1. After the Tigers nicked Doyle Alexander for a run in the first inning, Juan Beniquez walked in the third, stole second and scored the tying run when Claudell Washington doubled. Washington then stole third and continued home on a wild throw by catcher Milt May. Washington also scored an insurance run for the Rangers in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Willie Horton.
