Taking advantage of a 23-mile-an-hour wind blowing out of Wrigley Field, the Cubs smashed seven homers, twice hitting three in one inning, while walloping the Padres, 23-6. In the third, Larry Biittner homered with a man on base and Steve Ontiveros with two aboard.

After a walk to George Mitterwald and run-scoring double by Ivan DeJesus, Gene Clines hit for the circuit. Biittner, Bobby Murcer and Jerry Morales homered in succession in the fifth. The Cubs then exploded for eight runs in the sixth before Dave Rosello accounted for their seventh homer in the eighth. The Padres had a homer by Bobby Valentine. [The Sporting News]
