. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Gaylord Perry became the third pitcher to win 100 games in each major league when the veteran righthander recovered from a shaky start and hurled the Rangers to a 6-3 victory over the Tigers. Perry won 134 games in 10 seasons with the Giants in the N. L. and attained 100 victories in the A. L. in less than six seasons with the Indians and Rangers. Cy Young and Jim Bunning were the only previous pitchers to reach the century mark in both leagues.

Perry gave up the Tigers' runs in the first inning, but then allowed only three hits the rest of the way and retired the last 17 batters in a row. The Rangers came to Perry's rescue with a five-run rally in the fourth inning, featuring a bases-loaded single by John Ellis. [The Sporting News]
