Breaking loose for five runs in the 12th inning, the Indians defeated the Royals, 12-7. Duane Kuiper walked to open the outburst, stole second, took third on a passed ball and scored the tie-breaking tally on a sacrifice fly by Jim Norris. After a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases, Frakn Duffy drove in two runs with a single and Buddy Bell knocked in two more with a double.

Rick Manning had a homer for the Indians, while Hal McRae hit two for the Royals, batting in their first four runs. The Royals tied the score in the ninth. John Wathan delivered a pinch-single for one run and Dave Nelson hit a pinch-triple to drive in the tying pair. [The Sporting News]
