Joe Morgan stole the 320th and 321st bases of his career, breaking a tie with Bob Bescher and setting a Cincinnati club record, as the Reds defeated the Mets, 8-7. The Mets knocked out Pat Zachry in the fourth inning while scoring four runs, but the Reds came back with a matching quartet in their half on a double by Ken Griffey, single by Morgan, double by Dan Driessen and homer by Johnny Bench.

The Reds tacked on three more runs in the sixth on a bases-loaded wild pitch by Bob Apodaca and single by Pete Rose. Driessen doubled Morgan home with what proved to be the deciding run in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
