Rudy May, traded by the Yankees to the Orioles last June 15, beat his former teammates for the fifth straight time, posting a 5-1 victory in the opener of a doubleheader, but the Yankees came back to win the nightcap, 8-2. May beat the Yankees three times last season and now has two decisions over his old club this year. The Orioles tied the score at 1-1 with a homer by Ken Singleton in the fourth inning before knocking out Catfish Hunter in the sixth. Eddie Murray drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single and, after Sparky Lyle relieved, Pat Kelly singled to add another tally.

In the nightcap, Graig Nettles drove in three runs for the Yankees with a homer and double. Paul Blair and Fred Stanley batted in two apiece. Kelly doubled for the Orioles in the fifth, hitting safely in his 18th straight game, and scored on a single by Kiko Garcia.
