Wilbur Wood's first start since May 9, 1976, was wrecked by the Tigers, who kayoed the lefthander in the second inning and walloped the White Sox, 14-3. Jason Thompson led the Tigers at bat, driving in five runs with a homer, triple and sacrifice fly. Wood had made two relief appearances previously this year to start his comeback after suffering a fractured left kneecap when hit by a batted ball last season. [The Sporting News]
