Larry Dierker, making his first appearance since fracturing his leg in spring training March 3, allowed only three hits in five innings, but they were enough to bring the Giants a 2-0 victory over the Cardinals. Two walks and a single by Willie McCovey accounted for the initial run in the first inning and Gary Thomasson homered for the other tally the in fourth. Jim Barr pitched the first seven innings for the Giants and Gary Lavelle completed the shutout. [The Sporting News]
