. . . where the 1970s live forever!

A loser of five previous decisions, Jerry Reuss gained his first victory of the season, with relief help from Terry Forster, when the Pirates defeated the Mets, 5-2. The Pirates beat Jon Matlack, who had gone into the game with two straight shutouts to his credit.

A double by Rennie Stennett in the second inning snapped Matlack's scoreless streak. The Pirates then chased Matlack with three runs in the fourth on a single by Al Oliver, pass to Stennett and singles by Phil Garner, Reuss and Omar Moreno. Oliver added a run with a homer off Bob Myrick in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
