The White Sox knocked out Catfish Hunter in the second inning and built up a 5-0 lead, but the Yankees came back behind the hitting of Thurman Munson, Chris Chambliss and Reggie Jackson to gain an 8-6 victory. Oscar Gamble homered with a man on base in the first before the White Sox chased Hunter 
while scoring three more runs in the second.

Munson paced Yankee rallies by driving in three runs with a triple and sacrifice fly. Jackson and Chambliss each accounted for two RBIs. Jackson hit a homer in the second to spark a five-run outburst and drove in the go-ahead tally with a single in the fifth. Two more runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Munson and single by Chambliss produced the deciding margin before Richie Zisk homered in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
