Tommy Hutton batted in four runs, including the game-winning tally in the eighth inning to lead the Phillies to a 5-4 victory over the Mets. Hutton drove in a run with a single in the first and homered with a man on base in the sixth as the Phils built up a 4-1 lead at the expense of Tom Seaver.

The Mets took Seaver off the hook with a three-run rally in the seventh. After Roy Staiger doubled, Ed Kranepool batted for Seaver and homered. John Milner and John Stearns followed with doubles for the tying tally. The Phils' winning run was set up in the eighth when Mike Schmidt doubled. Terry Harmon, running for Schmidt, moved to third on an infield out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hutton. [The Sporting News]
