Homers by Manny Trillo and Bobby Murcer, plus two RBIs by Jerry Morales, carried the Cubs to a 4-2 victory over the Pirates and resulted in John Candelaria's first loss of the season. Larry Biittner singled in the fourth inning, took second on an infield out and scored the Cubs' first run on a single by Morales, who was out trying for second.

That cost the Cubs a run because Trillo followed with a homer. After the Pirates tied the score, Murcer broke the deadlock with a circuit clout in the sixth. A single by Biittner and triple by Morales added an insurance tally in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
