With coach Bob Skinner in charge as acting manager, the Padres put across two runs after two were out in the seventh inning to defeat the Astros, 3-2. George Hendrick led off with a single and was forced by Dave Winfield. After Mike Ivie flied out, Gene Tenace singled. Winfield took third on the hit and Tenace moved to second on the throw.
