Dennis Eckersley threw the second no-hitter in the major leagues this season, striking out 12 of the Angels, including Bobby Grich, Jerry Remy and Terry Humphrey twice each. His opponent, Frank Tanana, the American League's winningest pitcher with eight victories, hurled a five-hitter and fanned six.

The Indians' only run came in the first inning on Duane Kuiper's one-out triple and Jim Norris' perfectly-executed suicide squeeze bunt. With the no-hitter, Eckersley extended his hitless streak to 16 2/3 consecutive innings. [The Sporting News]
