Extending their winning streak to five games. the Reds defeated the Braves, 5-2, and moved up to the .500 mark (23-23) for the first time since they were 2-2 during the first week of the season. Pat Zachry ended a personal four-game losing streak with his first victory since April 27.

The Reds took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on a single by Dan Driessen. After Jeff Burroughs tied the score with a homer in the third, the Reds went ahead to stay with a run in their half on singles by Pete Rose and Ken Griffey and infield out by Joe Morgan. [The Sporting News]
