After striking out three times, Willie Horton tagged Fergie Jenkins for a two-run double in the eighth inning to bring the Rangers a 3-1 victory over the Red Sox. Toby Harrah homered for the Rangers in the second and Bernie Carbo for the Red Sox in the seventh.

Horton should have been retired in the eighth but got new life at the plate when Rick Burleson dropped his foul fly for an error. Given a second chance, Horton hit his double, driving in Juan Beniquez, who had singled, and Dave May, who had walked. [The Sporting News]
