Catcher Milt May threw out four runners on attempted steals to help Dave Rozema gain the victory as the Tigers defeated the Indians, 4-2. Rozema gave up a homer by Ray Fosse in the eighth inning and then got a helping hand from Steve Foucault with one out in the ninth after Paul Dade singled to drive in the Indians' second run.

Tito Fuentes hit his first homer of the season for the Tigers in the opening frame. Ben Oglivie doubled and scored on a single by Phil Mankowski in the fifth and Jason Thompson tripled home Rusty Staub in the sixth. Steve Kemp doubled for the Tigers' final tally in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
