Nino Espinosa and Skip Lockwood combined on a shutout and Jerry Grote supplied two scoring singles to enable the Mets to defeat the Phillies, 2-0. In the fourth inning, Dave Kingman doubled, Mike Vail beat out an infield hit and Grote drove in Kingman with a single. The same trio produced the other run in the sixth.
