After failing to hold a 7-4 lead, the Cardinals finally lost to the Expos in the 13th inning, 8-7. The Expos tied the score in the eighth. Gary Carter ignited the rally with his first homer since May 1. Del Unser walked and Larry Parrish singled. After a sacrifice by Tom Walker, Dave Cash drove in the tying pair with a single. In the 13th, Andre Dawson walked and, after two out, stole second. Ellis Valentine, hitless in six previous times at bat, then came through with the winning single. [The Sporting News]
