A wild throw by Alan Bannister with two out in the 11th inning resulted in the Twins defeating the White Sox, 6-5. Glenn Adams hit a two-run homer for the Twins and Jorge Orta had a similar blow for the White Sox as a pinch-hitter. The White Sox took a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth on a solo swat by Jim Spencer, but the Twins tied the score in their half with a walk, single by Roy Smalley and sacrifice fly by Rod Carew.

In the 11th, Jerry Terrell beat out an infield hit, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Smalley and stole third. After Lyman Bostock fanned for the second out, Willie Norwood grounded to Bannister and when the shortstop's throw hit the dirt and eluded first baseman Spencer, Terrell scored the winning run.
