A single by pinch-hitter Wayne Nordhagen with two out in the 11th inning scored pinch-runner Brian Downing and gave the White Sox a 4-3 victory over the Rangers in a game that lasted four hours, 19 minutes. Alan Bannister had five hits and drove in two runs for the White Sox.

In the ninth, Bannister scored from second base on an error by Bump Wills to put the White Sox ahead, 3-2, but the Rangers tied the score in their half when Mike Hargrove tripled and Dave May singled. In the 11th, Jim Essian led off with a single and yielded the paths to Downing. After Downing stopped at second on a single by Ralph Garr, the next two batters went out before Nordhagen delivered the winning hit. [The Sporting News]
