Playing their first game under Bobby Winkles as new manager, succeeding Jack McKeon, the Athletics lost to the Tigers, 6-4. Tito Fuentes, who had three hits, drove in two runs to help the Tigers take a 6-2 lead before Wayne Gross made the game closer by hitting his 13th and 14th homers of the season for the A's.
