Mike Schmidt smashed two homers and a single, driving in five runs, and Greg Luzinski also hit for the circuit as the Phillies overpowered the Braves, 7-5. Schmidt started his slugging with a homer in the first inning. Luzinski connected in the fourth and Schmidt drove in a run with a single in the fifth.

Willie Montanez batted in four runs with a homer and double to pace the Braves to a 5-4 lead going into the seventh. But the Phillies then took command when Jerry Martin and Larry Bowa singled and Schmidt slammed his second homer of the game. [The Sporting News]
