Buddy Bell led off with a homer in the second inning to ignite a three-run outburst that brought the Indians a 3-1 victory over the Angels. After Bell's blow, John Lowenstein, Ray Fosse and Frank Duffy hit singles, Lowenstein scoring. Fosse then crossed the plate as Duane Kuiper grounded into a double play. Bobby Bonds saved the Angels from being the victims of a shutout by connecting for the circuit in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
