. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Johnny Bench drove in all of the Reds' runs to escort Fred Norman to a 3-2 decision over the Phillies for the lefthander's sixth straight victory. Bench began his run production with a homer in the second inning, After the Phillies took a 2-1 lead with circuit clouts by Jerry Martin and Mike Schmidt, Bench singled to score Joe Morgan with the tying tally in the fourth.

The Reds loaded the bases in the sixth on walks to Pete Rose and Morgan around a single by Ken Griffey. After George Foster struck out, Bench forced Morgan at second, but the Reds' catcher beat the relay to first, preventing a double play, as Rose scored the deciding run. [The Sporting News]
