Rod Carew, the league's leading batter, tripled off Frank Tanana in the seventh inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Craig Kusick to give the Twins a 3-2 victory over the Angels. Tanana, who leads the league in victories with 10, drew his third defeat in a duel with Dave Goltz. The Angels staked their lefthander to a two-run margin in the first inning, but the Twins picked up a run in their half and tied the score when Roy Smalley homered in the second.
