Rick Reuschel, one of the main contributers to the Cubs' surprise showing, brought his record to 9-2 with his first shutout of the season, beating the Padres, 2-0. The victory was the Cubs' sixth straight. A triple by Gene Clines and infield out by Bill Buckner produced the Cubs' first run in the fourth inning.
