Although Nolan Ryan struck out 14 batters, the Twins were able to defeat the Angels' ace, 7-6. The Twins tagged Ryan for four runs in the second inning, but the Angels came back with a four-run rally in the third and took a 5-4 lead in the fifth.

The Twins forged in front in their half of the fifth with a homer by Larry Hisle, triple by Rod Carew and single by Lyman Bostock, but the Angels tied the score in the eighth on a triple by Bobby Bonds and a wild pitch. However in the ninth, Ryan walked Butch Wynegar and Mike Cubbage with one out. After Hisle flied out, Rob Wilfong came through with the game-winning single. [The Sporting News]
