Ron Guidry, who had to be relieved in the ninth inning in each of the Yankee rookie's four previous victories, breezed through the route and shut out the Royals, 7-0. Guidry allowed only three hits and at one stretch retired 17 straight batters. Mickey Rivers led the Yankees at bat with three hits, including a two-run homer.
