. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Mariners rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to win the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 2-1, but the Rangers took advantage of four unearned runs in the first inning of the second game to gain an 8-6 victory, In the opener, the Rangers held a 1-0 lead going into the ninth when Doyle Alexander was removed after walking Bob Stinson. Mike Marshall failed in relief. After Craig Reynolds sacrificed, Jose Baez singled to score pinch-runner Larry Milbourne. Baez took second when Ranger catcher Jim Sundberg muffed the throw from the outfield and counted the Mariners' winning run on a single by Steve Braun.

Playing shortstop in the second game, Milbourne muffed a grounder by Juan Beniquez, opening the way for the Rangers' four-run inning. Dave May batted in one run with a double and Jim Mason two with a single. May made it three RBIs for the game with a two-run single in the second and Mason accounted for his third RBI with a sacrifice fly in the third. [The Sporting News]
