Climaxing a four-run rally by the Padres in the fourth inning, pinch-hitter Jerry Turner homered with two men on base to beat the Cardinals, 4-3. The Cardinals held a 3-0 lead with the aid of a two-run double by Mike Tyson before the Padres began their comeback with one-out singles by George Hendrick and Bill Almon.

Hendrick took third on Almon's hit and an error by Jerry Mumphrey and scored when Mike Champion grounded into a forceout. Bob Davis walked. Turner then batted for John D'Acquisto and came through with his homer off John Denny for the winning blow. [The Sporting News]
