The Red Sox extended their record homer streak to 30 in nine consecutive games with a circuit clout by Butch Hobson while defeating the Orioles, 7-3, to complete a sweep of the four-game series. Hobson hit his homer in the second inning and drove in another run with a double in the fourth.

After Lee May homered for the Orioles in their half of the fourth to tie the score at 2-2, the Red Sox counted twice in the fifth on a double by Rick Burleson, singles by Fred Lynn and Jim Rice and a sacrifice fly by Carl Yastrzemski. The Orioles picked up one run in their half, but Steve Dillard knocked in two for the Red Sox with a single in the eighth and Carlton Fisk tripled in a run in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
