A single by Craig Reynolds drove in the tie-breaking run in the 10th inning and the Mariners added another tally on an error to defeat the Royals, 8-6. Dan Meyer opened the inning with a double, stopped at third on a single by Bob Stinson and scored on Reynolds' hit. When Fred Patek bobbled a soft liner by Jose Baez, Stinson also crossed the plate.
