Bobby Murcer hit a homer and sacrifice fly, driving in two runs, and Steve Ontiveros also homered as the Cubs defeated the Mets, 5-2, for their sixth straight victory. Murcer hit his homer in the second inning. Morales followed with a double and, after an intentional pass to Steve Swisher, Mike Krukow surprised the Mets with a run-scoring single to put the Cubs ahead, 2-1.

After the Mets tied the score in the fifth, the Cubs put the game away with two runs in their half on singles by Ivan DeJesus, Gene Clines and Bill Buckner, plus Murcer's sacrifice fly. Ontiveros wrapped up the scoring with his round-tripper in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
