The Red Sox, who had gone three games without hitting a homer, resumed their slugging with two round-trippers but still lost to the Tigers, 3-2, for their fifth straight defeat. Fred Lynn homered in the first inning and Carl Yastrzemski in the fourth to give the Red Sox a 2-0 lead. The Tigers rallied to tie the score and then put over the winning run in the ninth when Phil Mankowski singled, Chuck Scrivener sacrificed and Ron LeFlore singled for his third hit of the game.
