Fred Lynn homered in the first inning and Carl Yastrzemski in the fourth to give the Red Sox a 2-0 lead. The Tigers rallied to tie the score and then put over the winning run in the ninth when Phil Mankowski singled, Chuck Scrivener sacrificed and Ron LeFlore singled for his third hit of the game.
