. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Yankees, who lost the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, 8-5, came back with a four-run outburst in the 11th inning to defeat the Blue Jays in the nightcap, 5-1. Ron Fairly smashed a two-run homer for the Blue Jays in the first game. After the Yankees took a 4-3 lead, the Blue Jays put over four runs in the seventh. Ernie Whitt doubled, advanced on a bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hector Torres that Reggie Jackson dropped in right field. Torres reached second on the error. Bob Bailor and Al Woods followed with singles, Torres scoring, and Doug Ault then drove in two runs with a pinch-single.

Fairly hit his second homer of the night to account for the Blue Jays' run in the second game. The Yankees tied the score with doubles by Cliff Johnson and Jackson in the sixth. In the 11th, singles by Roy White and Chris Chambliss, a sacrifice and infield hit by Mickey Rivers produced the tie-breaking tally. Graig Nettles followed with a double, driving in two runs, and scored himself when Dave McKay made a wild throw on the relay from the outfield. [The Sporting News]
