Playing their first game under Billy Hunter as new manager, the Rangers were defeated, 6-5, when the Athletics rallied for two runs in the ninth inning. A homer by Bert Campaneris in the eighth put the Rangers ahead, 5-4, but the A's came back in the ninth with a single by Manny Sanguillen, balk by Adrian Devine, single by Wayne Gross, sacrifice by Tony Armas and single by Willie Crawford.
