. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Attracted by Mark Fidrych's turn to pitch, the Tigers' largest crowd of the season, 51,745, turned out to watch The Bird beat the Red Sox, 7-2, for his sixth straight victory. The Tigers got to Bill Lee for two runs in the second inning on a walk to Steve Kemp, double by Jason Thompson and a pair of infield outs.

Two more runs followed in the third on singles by Ron LeFlore and Tito Fuentes, a forceout, error and single by Thompson. Getting his third hit of the game, Thompson homered with a man on base in the eighth. In his only shaky stanza, Fidrych gave up the Red Sox runs in the seventh on a homer by Butch Hobson, pass to Denny Doyle and singles by Rick Burleson and Fred Lynn. [The Sporting News]
