Tom House made his first A. L. start, pitched seven innings and gained the victory when the Mariners defeated the White Sox, 3-1. Enrique Romo hurled the last two frames. House had previously started only one other game in the majors with the Braves in the N. L. in 1971.

Jim Spencer homered for the White Sox run in the fifth inning, but the Mariners rallied against Wilbur Wood in the eighth. Carlos Lopez bunted safely, Skip Jutze beat out an infield hit and Leroy Stanton doubled to drive in the tying tally.
